DARKRECONSTRUCTION is an emerging artist working in acrylic and watercolor paints, creating abstract expressionist paintings. Their work focuses on the contrast between urban life and nature. They are inspired by concrete walls overgrown by ivy and tree branches, train underpasses covered in graffiti and grass, a strong New York summer rainstorm beating against the window, decaying warehouses, tiny alleys, and the way the air smells on the first few days of September. Their work carries an eco-brutalist approach to expressionism, a marriage between organic textures and urban visuals.
DARKRECONSTRUCTION is as deeply tied to nature as they are to city life. Their exploration focuses on contrasting organic textures against stark, bold architecturally inspired figures as well as bright colors, especially a clear sky blue, a neon orange, a hot pink. When creating, DARKRECONSTRUCTION pulls from our deep ancestral past as much as from the wild cyberpunk future - sigils and algorithms, leaves and rusted metals, myths and realities.
DARKRECONSTRUCTION aims to take the viewer on a journey through concepts from myths and legends, histories and fibs, buildings and forests. Their paintings are meant to be an infinite odyssey on a canvas, leaving the viewer unmoored from time and space itself, looking forward and backwards all at once, finding a common ground regardless of where they're from. DARKRECONSTRUCTION's end goal is to inspire unity through understanding.
DARKRECONSTRUCTION is the recipient of the City Artist Corps grant in 2021, and the Downtown Far Rockaway Artist Commissioning Program Artist in Residence in the spring of 2021. Their work has been published in a variety of arts and literary publications, most notably as the cover artist of Volume 14, Issue 1 of Minding Nature journal.
